PREVENTING FINANCIAL EXPLOITATION THROUGH DIGITAL LITERACY

📍PUERTO RICO

Conocimiento Digital En Tus Manos, Inc. (CODEM) is a nonprofit organization that seeks to close the gap between the virtual world and elders from disadvantaged communities in Puerto Rico. ConPRmetidos and CoDEM have partnered for a second project that will start in 2023. This grant will impact three communities with digital education tutoring, workshops, and the distribution of manuals on the use of cell phones. CoDEM will also use this grant to grow and strengthen their organization with the creation of a new web page so others can learn about their services. In addition, this grant will build the organization’s internal capacity to find new sources of funding for their programs and services.

REDUCING INEQUALITY THROUGH EDUCATION

📍LOIZA, PUERTO RICO

ConPRmetidos is supporting the Piñones Aprende y Emprende (PAYE) community education program. Our grant will help cover expenses to rehabilitate their office, teaching and outdoor facilities. In addition, it will enable them to offer a fair wage to their teachers. PAYE provides a safe space where the children of Piñones (K-6th grade) can develop creativity and critical thinking skills through reading, writing, and art activities. The program also pays special attention to local culture, identity, and promoting healthy self-esteem. Moreover, PAYE provides services to students’ mothers, mostly single parents and heads of their households, so they have the right tools to support and raise their children.

TRANSFORMING CHILDREN’S LIVES THROUGH MODERN EDUCATION

📍LARES, PUERTO RICO

Fundación OE aims to improve the quality of education in Puerto Rico by incorporating technology and other academic resources. Their digital platform, “La Nueva Escuela Virtual” (NEV) contains comprehensive curriculums and complimentary materials on all major subjects, giving both teachers and parents the tools needed to support their children’s education. The platform also provides teachers with data to measure the progress of all students. Thanks to ConPRmetidos’ grant, 100 students and teachers from the Escuela Daniel Vélez Soto in the municipality of Lares will have access to the platform next year.

HIGHLIGHTING THE IMPORTANCE OF READING AND WRITING SKILLS

📍ISLAND-WIDE

The mission of Fundación Atención Atención is to ensure that each child becomes the best version of themselves by providing creative educational experiences and innovative tools, to them and their parents/caretakers. This nonprofit’s holistic approach of supporting both the child and the parents/caretakers’ learning experiences ensures success and excellence every step of the way. ConPRmetidos’ grant is funding new modules of their online educational program for students aged 3 to 10 years old, called “AA Academy,” that includes mathematics, language acquisition, and reading in an integrated manner. The grant will also provide in-person activities in Puerto Rican public schools through their “La Magia de Leer y Jugar” program, which develops reading and writing skills in a fun way while integrating arts and crafts.

CHANNELING RESOURCES TO UNDERSERVED YOUTH

📍PEÑUELAS, PUERTO RICO

Impacto Juventud GC’s “Aula de la Montaña” (Classroom in the Mountain) is a weekly volunteer program where college students tutor elementary, middle school, and high-school students, in all primary subjects. Agro-ecological, cultural, and physical activities complement the academic curriculum and promote community building and good health. This program also addresses the special education needs of twelve students that require individual attention but are not receiving it at their public schools. ConPRmetidos’ grant allows Impacto Juventud to hire a project coordinator for their program and provide thirty college volunteers with stipends for the next ten months.

LINKING YOUNG STUDENTS AND PROFESSIONALS TO SOCIAL ACTION PROJECTS

📍 ISLAND-WIDE IMPACT

Mentes Puertorriqueñas en Acción (MPA) arose from a group of university students looking for ways to confront the problems that affect the island and find solutions to improve Puerto Rico. The goal of MPA is to address Puerto Rico’s social and citizen participation gap. ConPRmetidos’ grant supports the management of their internship program called Programa de Apoderamiento y Retención de Agentes de Cambio (PARACa) and their civic participation initiative EnAcción.
