Flourishing in Community
ConPRmetidos created a partnership with Fordham University to support and promote the “Flourishing in Community: Fordham University Environmental Justice Grant Program.” To grant these funds, a proposal evaluation process will be opened in which non-profit organizations and municipalities may participate.
Examples of environmental justice projects:
Recovery and resilience;
Evaluation and improvement of air, soil and water quality;
Public health initiatives; cleaning and waste management;
Purchase of land and facilities;
Workforce development;
Educational programming and learning pathways.
Fordham University received a $50 million grant from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) as part of the 2023 environmental justice prosperous communities grant program. This program seeks to provide federal funding to environmental projects, prioritizing underrepresented groups and communities disproportionately affected by environmental injustice in EPA Region 2.
The Fordham grant, co-led by Dr. Julie Gafney and Puerto Rican Surey Miranda Alarcón, is one of 11 awarded nationally, and establishes a grant structure similar to a foundation. ConPRmetidos joins as a statutory partner, collaborating closely with Fordham in the Puerto Rico and US Virgin Islands region, for the efficient administration of funds and providing support in outreach activities, community engagement and project management.
ConPRmetidos recognizes the importance and potential impact of this grant to promote environmental justice and address the needs of the organizations that do the work every day. We are honored to be able to put our experience managing grants to work and act as a statutory partner of Fordham in Puerto Rico and as a regional center in the Caribbean. ConPRmetidos, with its experience and focus on removing barriers to organizational development, is positioned as a key partner in this effort.
